Focus Area: Youth, Incarcerated
Since 2011, a faithful team of Young Life staff and volunteers have spent 90 minutes every Thursday afternoon with the incarcerated population of young men at the Justice Center. Roughly 700 young men, ages 14-18, spend at least one night in the non-sentenced facility every year. Under the cooperative branch of incarcerated programming, Young Life is given access to these cherished members of our community. Hundreds of Bibles have been handed out, along with exceptional conversions, confessions, and an overall extraordinary response to the love of Christ.
Volunteers of YL2C are making a difference in Syracuse by supporting the following efforts:
Weekly meetings at the Justice Center are led by a pair of YL staff or volunteers who spend about 20-30 minutes talking with the young men about life and any topics of interest. Within this time of building friendship, the conversation is directed towards Jesus and the Bible. The rest of the time is spent in a small setting where there is always a spirited discussion about life, faith, struggles, hopes and setbacks.
